Humberto “Kiko” Olivieri

Humberto Olivieri, also known as “Kiko” Olivieri, is a Venezuelan writer and producer of telenovelas. He has written about a dozen telenovelas for the Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV), Venevision, Marte Televisión, Caracol Television, and American Telemondo. Most recently, he has been living in the United States and writing almost exclusively for Telemundo and the Mexican television network Televisa.

Some of Olivieri’s best known telenovelas include: Maria Fernanda, Julia, Maria Maria, La Traidora, La Inovlidable, Reina de Corazones, La Vengeanza, Zorro: La Espada y La Rosa, and El Rostro de Analia.

Olivieri has been outspoken on the importance of having telenovelas that reflect the customs and characters of their audience. He has said that the telenovela must reflect the language of relationships between human beings. That belief is reflected in the themes and focus he brings to the many telenovelas with which he’s been involved. Olivieri believes that telenovelas should reflect the dreams, romantic and sentimental aspirations of people, and be something the whole family can enjoy–without focusing so heavily on violence and crime. Further, he believes that telenovelas should look to literature for inspiration, and aspire to achieve literary merit.

Olivieri is actively involved in expanding and enhancing the telenovela genre through his work with Arcadia International, a major distributor of telenovelas throughout Latin America and the U.S. He has been represented by Arcadia since 2012. The company, founded by Miguel Rosenfeld in 1986, represents some of the most significant and groundbreaking writers in the telenovela industry. It also acquires telenovelas from around the world for distribution in Latin America.

Arcadia Chairman and CEO Miguel Rosenfeld has been called a visionary for his work in popularizing telenovelas among a wider audience. His career as a senior-level executive spans more than 28 years, during which time he has proven himself to be a leader in the television, cable, and communications industries throughout North America, Latin America, and Europe.
