Ligia Lezama

   
Ligia Lezama, a prolific writer of telenovelas, was born in Upata, Venezuela. She was married to actor Charles Barry, with whom she had three children. Her daughter, Mayra Alejandra, was a Venezuelan actress and the protagonist of some of her telenovelas. Her work aired on RCTV and Venevisión and was remade in Mexico. She died in 2014 in Caracas. Ligia began her career by adapting world literature classics for television, including Ifigenia, by the Venezuelan writer Teresa de la Parra, and Arthur Miller’s The Witches of Salem. Ligia Lezama’s adaptation of the Miller work was titled Los Poseidos.

Ligia Lezama is better known as the screenwriter for more than two dozen telenovelas, including Adoro, Rosa Campos, Provinciana, Marielena, La Guajirita, Valeria, Amándote I and II, Rebeca, Morena Clara, La Sombra de Piera, Sabor a ti, Luisana Mía, Macarena, Pasiones, and Mundo de Fieras. All of these shows aired in Venezuela. Ligia also adapted Marta y Javier, which was originally written by telenovela legend Delia Fiallo. This adaptation starred Ligia’s daughter, Mayra Alejandra. Pasiones was remade in Mexico three different times under three different titles. Televisa has remade Mundo de Fieras, and RCTV has remade Marielena.
