Janete Clair

   
Janete Clair was a Brazilian television, radionovela, and telenovela writer from Conquista, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Even after he death from cancer 15 years ago, Telenovelas continue to be based on her original stories. She was the wife of fellow telenovela writer Alfredo Dias Gomes.

Clair got her start writing radionovelas in the 1960s. Her first major telenovela was Anastácia, A Mulher Sem Destino. She continued to write telenovelas from then on, including Véu de Noiva; the highly rated Selva de Pedra; Irmãos Coragem, a Western-inspired story said to be responsible for getting men interested in the telenovela genre; and Pecado Capital, which many consider her best work.

She did not live long enough to see her telenovela Eu Prometo to the end. Her husband collaborated with Gloria Perez to see the telenovela through to its conclusion.

Janete Clair wrote for more than three dozen telenovelas in all. In addition to all her radio and television production, Janete Clair also wrote a novel, Nenê Bonet, and a photonovela, A Mulher Perfeita, published by the magazine Cartaz in 1972 and starring Francisco Cuoco.

Janete Clair has been affiliated with Arcadia International, a major distributor of telenovelas throughout Latin America, since 2012. That company was founded in 1986 by Miguel Rosenfeld, with the explicit goal of bringing together Latin America’s most well-known and respected telenovela writers and unique telenovela projects from around the world for distribution.
